Critical steps to protect your new grafts during the most important recovery window
The first 72 hours are the most crucial period for graft survival. Freshly implanted follicles have no blood supply yet and must anchor into your scalp. Any disturbance can dislodge them permanently.
You may begin gentle washing after 72 hours. Scabs will start forming around the grafts — these must fall off naturally. Never pick or scratch at them.
By the end of week two, scabs should have fallen off naturally. The transplanted area will look red but is healing well underneath. Grafts are now securely anchored.
Follow these daily practices to maximize your transplant results
Use lukewarm water and sulfate-free shampoo. Pour water gently — never use direct spray. Pat dry with soft towel, never rub. After 2 weeks, use light fingertip circular motions only.
Sleep on your back with head elevated at 45° for the first week. Use extra pillows or a wedge cushion. Avoid side or stomach sleeping to prevent friction on grafts.
Eat protein-rich foods: eggs, fish, lean meats, nuts, and leafy greens. Key nutrients include iron, zinc, biotin, and vitamins A, C, D, E. Stay hydrated — limit alcohol and processed foods.
Wear a loose-fitting hat when outdoors for 4-6 weeks. After healing, apply mineral SPF 30+ to scalp. UV exposure can cause discoloration and compromise graft recovery.
No hats for the first 3-5 days. After that, only loose-fitting clean hats that don't touch grafts. Avoid tight caps, beanies, or helmets for at least 2-3 weeks.
Light walking is fine immediately. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and sweating for 2 weeks. Swimming: wait 4 weeks. Full routine: resume after 3-4 weeks.

Expert advice to keep your transplanted and existing hair healthy for life
Wait at least 6 months before coloring, perming, or bleaching. These chemicals can irritate the scalp and damage newly established grafts. Choose ammonia-free formulas when you do.
Use cool or low-heat settings only. Keep the dryer at least 15cm from your scalp. Air drying with a soft towel is the safest option during the first few months.
For men, discuss DHT-blocking treatments with your doctor. Finasteride and natural DHT blockers can protect both transplanted and existing hair from hormonal thinning.
Continue eating protein-rich foods with iron, zinc, and omega-3s. Limit processed foods, excessive sugar, and alcohol — all of which can weaken hair and slow growth.
Scheduled check-ups at 3, 6, and 12 months let our doctors track growth, catch issues early, and adjust your care plan. These are included in your treatment package.
High stress accelerates hair loss through telogen effluvium. Practice relaxation techniques, get adequate sleep, and consider scalp massage to improve circulation and reduce tension.

I've dealt with an oily, flaky scalp my whole adult life — tried every drugstore anti-dandruff shampoo and nothing stuck for more than a week. I signed up for Barley's deep-cleansing scalp SPA package, going every 10 days for 3 months. The technician does a gentle enzyme peel first, then a warm steam to open follicles, then extraction, then a soothing rosemary mask. I'm 4 sessions in and my dandruff is basically gone, the oiliness is cut in half, and my scalp doesn't itch anymore. I'm a total convert. I'm already booked for the next 3 months as maintenance.
I started noticing my crown was thinning about 18 months ago — not bald yet, just that see-through look under bright light. Instead of waiting to need a transplant, I signed up for the monthly maintenance care package at Barley. I come in every 4 weeks for a scalp detox, LLLT laser helmet session, and a custom nutrient ampoule that gets massaged in. The best part? The little fuzzy peach-fuzz vellus hairs in my thinning spot are getting noticeably thicker and darker. My barber actually asked if I'd started minoxidil, and I said nope — just the regular care program. Prevention is way cheaper than fixing it later.
My dermatologist diagnosed female pattern androgenetic alopecia two years ago and wanted to put me on finasteride and minoxidil, but I hate the side effect profile of oral meds. I found Barley's women's hair care program and have been doing the 6-week intensive course. It combines LLLT low-level laser sessions, microneedle scalp stimulation with growth serums, and custom herbal anti-androgen scalp tonics. I'm in month 4 now and I can actually see new hair growth along my part line — not just vellus either, proper pigmented terminal hairs. My part is visibly narrower and I don't feel the need to cover it with toppik fibers anymore.
I'm 28 and my dad and older brother are both completely bald on top, so I knew genetically my time was coming. I started noticing a little temple recession last year and decided I'm not gonna wait until it's obvious. I do Barley's anti-hair-loss maintenance program once every 5 weeks: a deep cleansing, a 20-minute LLLT laser cap session, and a DHT-blocking scalp serum with saw palmetto and green tea extract that gets applied with micro-current. My trichologist measured my hair density at the start and again at 8 months — I actually GAINED 12% density in the temple areas instead of losing more. Paying now for maintenance is way smarter than paying for a transplant in 10 years.
As a woman with fine, easily-irritated hair and scalp, I've always been scared of doing in-salon treatments. The team at Barley designed a super gentle women's-only care package for me — no harsh chemicals at all. I go in every 3 weeks for a hydrating hyaluronic acid scalp mask, a relaxing lymphatic drainage massage on my temples and neck, and a 15-minute red light LED session. After 5 sessions my scalp is way less red and irritated, my hair feels thicker at the root, and the best part is the whole thing feels like a luxury spa treatment rather than a medical procedure. I actually look forward to my appointments now.
